My client doing keto & intermittent fasting, & NOT losing any weight
Feb 26, 2024Before this client and I started working together, she had been working with a naturopath who had put her on keto and intermittent fasting.
She didn't have a huge amount of weight to lose, but she wasn't losing any.
We worked on supporting her nervous system and increasing protein, and now, only 5 weeks into my program, she's losing weight, eating more and her energy is coming back!
Here's how we did it.
We focused on healing first, before weight loss.
Before my client was focusing on weight loss, and not on healing. She has been though lots of stress the 5 years prior, and had put on 8-9kg. She didn't feel as fit and healthy and full of life as she'd like to be.
The restrictive eating she was doing was putting more stress on her nervous system.
When we started to focus on supporting her nervous system, the weight started to shift.
I did a full naturopathic case history, and prescribed some supplements to support her HPA axis (the stress organs). She also incorporated tiny healthy habits that support the HPA axis too: Humming in the shower, taking deep breaths before eating, doing a 10 minute meditation at bedtime, walking in nature every day.
If you're currently focusing on weight loss, and you haven't addressed any underlying health concerns, you're pushing the wrong thing up the wrong hill.
You're essentially punishing yourself for no result. When you focus on health and addressing underlying health conditions, that's when you'll see the weight start to shift
We worked with the Protein Leverage Hypothesis.
My client is primarily vegetarian, but before we started working together, she was not eating enough protein to meet her 40+ year old requirements.
She was eating really healthily....and always clean eating, but when we calculated how much protein she really needed for her age and size, she was not eating enough.
I introduced her to the Protein Leverage Hypothesis, which states women aged 40+ need 1.2kg of protein per kg of body weight, and that much of that protein needs to be in the early half of the day. So when my client started adding the right amount of protein at the right time of the day, she started to lose weight.
If you're currently clean eating, and doing 'everything right' in terms of a healthy diet, but not losing that last 5kg....
You're unknowingly self sabotaging and getting stuck in a cycle of frustration around no weight loss when doing all the right things.
When you eat the right protein FOR YOU, at the right time of the day FOR YOU, that's when the weight will start to shift.
You're currently skipping that most important first step in weight loss (which is healing and health), and eating the wrong 'healthy' foods at the wrong time of the day.
When you address health, and eat the right foods at the right time, that's when you'll start to fit back into your favourite clothes from 5 years ago.
