Here’s what I learned from a $24K “bad investment”
Jan 31, 2024This time last year I got totally sucked into making a bad investment for my business when it came to working with a particular coach.
I was sold the dream, and was told I'd be taught everything I needed to know about using Facebook Groups to grow my business.
I was told I would need nothing else! That a Facebook Group was the only strategy that I'd ever need.
The month before I started working with this coach, I'd had a $44K month launching my business coaching program, and I was told "You'll have your first $100K month after you start working with me".
I fell for the hype.
I got sucked in.
And I handed over $24K.
Once I was into the program, I realised quite quickly I'd made a big mistake.
There was some great information in the program..but it could have been delivered in a succinct 1 hour training, rather than being drip fed over 3 months of coaching call replays!
Luckily the coach had a 30 day money back guarantee, so I was able to recover $20K of the $24K. But, here is what I learnt along the way, and how it's made me a coach that structures my programs for world class results!
1) Delivering Education
This coach had HOURS, and I mean literally HOURS of coaching calls that I had to listen to. She would have about 5-10 minutes of key information hidden in those coaching calls, but you had to listen to IT ALL to get those little bits of gold.
What I do instead: Give my clients short videos, packed full of information, so they get what they need for their learning and transformation, without having their time wasted.
2) More Content Doesn't Equal Better Value
Having hours upon hours of video content in a program doesn't make it a better program. Especially when 90% of that information is hearing from other members in the group, their mindset issues and their limiting beliefs.
What I do instead: Make sure ALL the important 'HOW TO' content is delivered in on-demand, succinct videos, which my clients can watch when it suits them. We save coaching calls for mindset, revision and breakthroughs...but if my clients are busy they don't need to sift through these videos for key information pieces.
3) One Strategy is NOT all you need
One strategy is just that...it's one strategy. And one strategy may work for someone, in one niche, at one given time. However, it may not work for someone else, or even the same person at a different moment in time.
What I do instead: Teach a complete 3 tier marketing and sales system that gives you full strategy and coaching to evolve and pivot as the market and online landscape changes.

Stop the 'shiny object syndrome' and think that the 'next coach' has the one thing that will change the trajectory of your online business.
You need to dig in deeper than that.
Instead delve further with one coach who has a full system of everything you need to know, AND who offers you support WITHOUT wasting your time.
That's when things will start to take off for you.
